I have done some research on the quarters of Greeks and Jews. Some old settlements declined and some new settlements grow. As Jews still play an important role in Istanbul( but not as before) , Greeks are fewer and fewer there.

oh, this is the way you know our city. Architecture give their facade to advertisements.

by the use of internet, there is an oppotunity that we could creat a virtual city that means you can get anywhere and do everything by just click buttons. Can physical space replaced by virtual space?


4. the posibility of flexibility in architecture.

Can buildings move to another places withour destory it? Can we remove and rebuild a building easily just like playing games? There is a posibility that we can create an instant architecture like scaffolds?

3.architecture as city symbols.
the modern monuments in cities are important to us. Not our daily life but the image of our city or even our country. Every city now needs a lot of new symbils by architecture and it's our oppotunity.




2.ignored space in urban space.
ignored space are everywhere in our urban space. They are not abandoned space but the place that people totally have no aware to pay attention to. if we could use those ignored spaces, the efficiency of our city will be rised largely.

about Istanbul


Two kinds of survival tactics in Istanbul. One is for poor people who fight for their daily life, the other is the city leaders who fight for their euro dream.

This is Istanbul's some statistics about it's importance to Turkey and immigrations.



this is a march hold by Istanbul's citizen that fight for women's rights.


You know it's difficult for women rights in an islam country and it marked the government here are more and more tolerent for people express their own idea. It's an opening government because of Turkey are willing to be a real western country.




also there is a gay pride parade in Istanbul that the homosexual fight for their equal right as normal people.

poor & rich resident area


This is a picture about Istanbul's resident area differed by income.
blue and red are where rich people living while green and yellow are poor people's living space.
We can recognized that most rich people live near seaside and poor people live mainly in inner land where
city sprawl happened.

Istanbul—two kinds of survival tactics




How can a citizen live with 1.2 U.S dollars per day?
Can Istanbul become a western modern city and help Turkey join EU with it's ecomomy strategy?
also I labeled some main studiums on the map, because of some of them are out of bound, i just move two of them a little distant so it can be seen in this map

this is the picture of istanbul's main markets, also known as Bazaars. almost all of them gather in the historic urban area.





istanbul's main universities in certain area, we can see from the picture that most of universities site on the new developed area. I also found that most of istanbul universities have a short history.
